Ben's Chili Bowl

Before we hopped on the bus from DC back to NYC, we had to squeeze in one more meal. There was no line and it totally lived up to it's reputation. A satisfying way to end our stay!

seriously amazing chili and perfect morning potato hash. YUM!

love the classic, original decor

I am forever turned off by chain restaurants in a major way because of unique and amazing places like this to dine at!

Baked and Wired

We headed to Georgetown after brunch on a mission for sweets and we hit the jackpot.

Ted's Bulletin

Our second morning in DC was spent here. The decor reminded me of a bank and the TV above the bar was playing old-school cartoons (awesome). We were told it was going to be a 1 & 1/2 hour wait (huge groan), aaaand, they called our name in a mere 15 minutes (yahoo! big sigh of relief).

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was playing on the projector. Love that movie. As previously mentioned, I can't help getting all ga-ga over tufted anything. Velvet, leather, linen, you name it. If it's tufted, I like it and the benchbacks here were no exception.

Luke was totally digging the kitchen's white subway-tile wall. Hopefully we'll have our own, all white, modern country kitchen someday :)

Luke looks so different to me in this picture, as he's grown a full out beard over the last month! Pictures soon.

Always obsessed with creamer containers.

Luke's favorite breakfast is B&G. Did you know in NYC, it's very rare to see this at Breakfast/Brunch joints? What's up with that? Must be a midwest thing that we took for granted.

I may have caused a small scene by asking for this picture. (Wouldn't you? We had the best seat in the house!) Our waiter (who said he is a photographer outside of waiting tables) took this shot. I would have taken it differently, but that's what happens when you are very particular about your pictures. At least the other waiter was kind enough to attempt getting out of the way. Thanks anyway, waiter!

Pop-tarts, made from scratch.

Go to DC. Eat at Ted's. Do it!

Lauriol Plaza

After our long day of exploring, we needed some fuel and beverages in a bad way. After loving Robert and Sarah's first recommendation so much, we decided to hit up another one. Mexican fare and margarita pitchers at Lauriol Plaza.

Swirl margs
Oh man!

Enchiladas de Mariscos

Not the best picture, but Luke swears the Carne Asada Fajitas were the best he's ever had (and believe me when I say that he knows good steak) I got to try a piece and it was perfectly tender. And those unassuming black beans? Spicy green chili in those beans. Nom nom nom.

Can you believe how GARGANTUAN this place is? (3 enormous levels) I'm not kidding when I say it is the biggest restaurant I've ever seen.
And how cute is that dog? Must have been torture smelling so many fajita skillets!

Oh yeah, guess who else showed up for dinner?

More DC adventures and good eats coming soon (man, I'm behind!)

Dirty Reflections

After a lovely morning at Eastern Market and getting kicked out of the Air and Space Museum, we continued being dutiful tourists. We briefly popped into the American History Museum and drooled over Julia Child's cookware and cutlery. I couldn't help it after reading the books and watching the movie. Who knew someone's kitchen in a museum would be something I'd get all ga-ga over in my late 20's? Afterwards, we just walked and walked and walked.

Washington Monument

World War II Memorial
I think we saw maybe 100 planes coming and going throughout the day (for real). Luke was loving it!

Constitution Gardens Pond

I can't stress enough how gorgeous the weather turned out!

Reflecting Pool
Ummm, something's missing here, no?

Not so much the reflection I was hoping for. I guess like all beautiful things, it requires a bit of maintenance from time to time.

After an entire day of power-touring, we grabbed a cab back to the hotel for some freshening up before dinner (we had wandered 4 miles away and were seriously pooped).

Next up, dinner of course!
