Sunday Funday {video} and a contest! (closed)

We always enjoy going to Brooklyn, so we headed to Williamsburg this past Sunday. Long story short, but Luke ended up chasing down a mugger and things got a bit crazy for the first few minutes we were there. All was well in the end (after a few arrests!) and we threw back some Brooklyn Lagers and shared a delicious Porchetta sandwich at the brewery. We then proceeded to browse our favorite shops on Bedford with a quick stop through Soho before heading home. (Isn't it crazy how much walking we do and how much time is spent down in the subway?)

There is one slow motion scene in this video and the first person to best describe what exactly it is you're seeing, will receive a little something from us here in NYC. ***The winner is...Terri! You'll be receiving a little something from us soon :) The slowmotion part was towards the end of the video where you can see the old City Hall Station on the subway. The station's history is fascinating! It opened in 1904 and closed in 1945, so the only way to see it today, is by staying on the 6 train downtown bound (even when they say it's the last stop) curving around and back uptown. When we first moved here, we never knew it existed or that people were allowed to stay on the train to see it. Thanks to everyone who played along! My mom was close in thinking it might be near the World Trade Center area. We'll try and do another interesting contest soon.

renegade craft fair bklyn

i didn't get nearly as many pictures as i would have liked, but had an enjoyable time browsing the many amazing vendors at the renegade craft fair in brooklyn with my kc/denver/nyc friend, eva

my main goal was to find kylie of early jewelry from lawrence, kansas (she founded LOLA). we went to school together in riley, ks (where we are both from) and i had to show my support!

the style of her jewelry is very rustic and in tune with nature. i bought a pair of these awesome earrings, made from middle eastern goat/cow bone.

it continued to rain and pour, so eva and i found refuge inside of peter's on bedford avenue

serious southern comfort food. oh man! i had a heaping pile of braised pulled pork smothered over a bed of creamy grits. ultra satisfying on such a cold and rainy renegade day

inaugural smorgasburg

back on May 21st, (i am WAY behind on blogging) we hopped on the L train to the williamsburg waterfront in brooklyn. we were psyched to experience the very first smorgasburg in new york city, a brooklyn flea food market

i had to buy the chocolate chili cashew biscotti and the earl gray sandwich cookies

the original savory spice shop is in denver and was right across the street from where luke and i lived. i loved buying dried morels and indian curry there. when i saw they had a booth at the smorg, i shrieked with happiness!

these were suprisingly tasty. light, airy and sweet. not hard and crunchy like corn-nuts

of course i bought the bohemain forest rub after sampling

it contains crushed brown mustard seed, garlic, rosemary, black pepper, mediterranean thyme, savory, parsley, lavender, and sage

Justin, pictured here with his brother, is a mutual acquantaince from Kansas City. he's a chef and has worked with Jean-Georges Vongerichten for 10 years.

he is opening his wood-fire restaurant in Clinton Hill this fall!

he dishes up some excellent mozz balls, so of course we had to take one home for some insalata caprese

these cold sesame noodles are based on the recipe of Shorty Tang, famed for his version of these noodles in Chinatown in the 1970's. now his sons are bringing them back. they ran out of noodles and had to close down to get more!

kumquat cupcakery has the perfect bite-size treats. i get these every time i go to the brooklyn flea. my favorite flavors are the lemon lavender and the maple bacon (pictured above)
